Welcome
to our
Summer Section
Introduction.
What
we offer in the summer is very different to during the ski season. In
the summer we offer very reasonably Priced standard Bed and Breakfast in
very pleasant accommodation, with no conditions on when
you stay or for how long, or the number of rooms that you book. (There
is so much to do here that we strongly recommend at least one week.)
Chalet
Location
The
chalet is close to the eastern end of the Serre Chevalier (SC) ski
area, in a quiet and very attractive residential area of Briancon, on a
hill with good views. We are 5 minutes walk from a commercial centre
that has a large supermarket, and a good varied variety of shops.
Although the location is quiet we are not isolated, and if you have a
car we are in an excellent location for travelling around the whole
area as we are very close to the main ‘route nationals’
(A roads).
Accommodation
The
chalet has quite spacious accommodation; it is on 3 levels, basement,
middle floor, and
top floor. The top floor has a double bedroom, and a twin bedroom (both
of these are quite large with walk in style wardrobes), and there is a
shower room with toilet and washbasin. (The twin room can accommodate
more than two people, there is also space on the landing for a double
bed, if you are interested in extra accommodation please email us so
that we can discuss.)
The west end of the middle floor has a good size double bedroom, a
standard size twin room and both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes,
a bathroom and a separate toilet.
All
the beds are as new and are of a good quality.

The
east end of the middle floor has the lounge, dinning room, and kitchen.
The lounge has a TV, video, CD player, and Playstation (with Dance mat
!!) and there is a selection of films and games. The accommodation in
the basement is occupied by your hosts.
Outside
there is a good size terrace area which is very pleasant to sit out on.
Activities
What
is surprising is just how much there is to do in this area in the
summer, and you do not have to be fit to enjoy a holiday here, though
clearly for some activities you do need a good level of fitness, eg
cycling up mountain passes.
If
you wish, your hosts can provide lots of general advice on what to do,
where to go etc. We
consider that this can really help you to make the most of your holiday
here.
Tour de
France 2006
We
are offering a special Tour de France week from Saturday 15th July to
Saturday 22 July, see page for details.
Our Opinion
of Summer in this Area
Our
first summer at the chalet was 2004 when we spent 5 weeks here. We
purchased this property as it is very close
to one of the World’s greatest ski areas, plus it has an
exceptional climate. Before we came in summer 2004 we thought it would
be OK. Oh boy! how wrong could we be, this area in summer is not OK, it
is
outstanding, and greatly exceeded our expectations.
Nationality
of Summer Visitors to this Area
Serre
Chevalier
has many visitors in the summer, the main nationality is French, then
Italian (only 15 minutes from the border), Dutch and then probably
British. It is clear that many of these visitors are staying for a week
or more. The French have the whole of France and beyond to choose from,
so one might question why are there so many summer French visitors?
One could presume that
they have purchased winter ski apartments and are just utilising them in
the summer. Whilst there may be an element of truth to this we think that the
majority are either staying in hotels or renting
accommodation, and come because they love this region in the summer.
